Fix Android GPS tracking stopping when screen is off
Some Android phones stop apps running in the background in order to save battery. If GPS tracking stops when the screen turns off, the phone may be restricting background activity. This guide explains how to allow LocaToWeb to run in the background for reliable GPS tracking.

1. Allow background activity
On most Android phones you must allow the app to run without battery restrictions.
Settings → Apps → Select LocaToWeb → Tap Battery → Select Unrestricted or Allow background activity
This prevents Android from stopping the app while tracking.
2. Allow location access all the time
For continuous GPS tracking the app must have permanent location access.
Settings → Apps → Select LocaToWeb → Permissions → Select Location → Choose Allow all the time
Without this permission tracking may stop when the app is not visible.
3. Disable battery saver
Some phones stop background apps when battery saving is enabled.
Open Settings → Tap Battery → Disable Battery saver or Power saving mode
Huawei and Honor
Huawei and Honor phones use additional background restrictions.
Open Settings → Tap Battery → Tap App launch → Find LocaToWeb → Disable Manage automatically
Enable the following:
Auto-launch → Secondary launch → Run in background
Xiaomi (MIUI / HyperOS)
Xiaomi phones can aggressively stop background apps.
Open Settings → Tap Apps → Select LocaToWeb → Tap Battery → Select No restrictions
Then enable:
Settings → Apps → LocaToWeb → Autostart
Samsung (Galaxy phones)
Samsung devices sometimes place apps into sleep mode.
Open Settings → Tap Apps → Select LocaToWeb → Tap Battery → Select Unrestricted
Then check:
Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits
Make sure LocaToWeb is not listed under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps.
Google Pixel
Pixel phones normally work well once battery restrictions are removed.
Open Settings → Tap Apps → Select LocaToWeb → Tap Battery → Select Unrestricted
If tracking still stops
- Restart the phone
- Disable Adaptive battery
- Ensure mobile data is allowed in background
- Update Android to the latest version
